Nashville
On friday, the Getwell Road UMC highschool girls traveled to Nashville for a leadership conference. On the way there, Allie Rose, Molly, Lauren, and I rode with Sarah P and Meghan Vaughan. Once we got to Nashville, all of us went to the Lifeway Christian Center. At the conference, the girls must attend two different breakouts (breakouts are small bible study sessions) each day, each one lasted about an hour. There were three breakouts to choose from at each time period.
On Friday, the first breakout I went to was called "BFF's 4-Ever." The breakout taught about how to know if you are in a healthy or unhealthy friendship. It also taught how to be a good friend without being sucked into a bad situation. The second breakout session went to was called "Let's Talk." This breakout taught how to help friends with some of the issues they face.
That night, the Getwell girls spent the night a Jenna's house; Jenna was a previous youth intern at Getwell. In the morning, all of us went to Starbucks! That was a great start to the morning. After Starbucks we headed back to the conference.
The next breakout I went to was called "Taming the Media Monster." The breakout taught how to evaluate what is being told by the messages around us. We are bombarded with messages from TV and music everyday; the breakout taught how to determine what is true and what's not.The last breakout I went to was my favorite. It was called "Glamour Girl." The breakout was taught by Rave Ministries, a local Nashville girls youth group. The breakout taught about the issue of looking good all the time, and it taught that appearance is not everyting.
After the conference, the Getwell girls ate a fabulous dinner at a resturaunt called Yolo's. When we were done eating, we headed to the mall. A few minutes into our shopping and we heard that Taylor Swift was in the mall!! We searched the mall asking every shopper if they had seen her. We finally found her in the Apple store. Everyone of us freaked out when we saw her. An older man with her told us to form a line so we could meet her. As we formed the line Taylor started walking out of the store. As she walked out she waved and said hey to us! We all screamed, and a security guard heard us so we had to leave. I was so starstruck I couldn's even shop, that was until I saw the Juicy Couture store. I ended up buying a pair of diamond earrings.
Nashville was such a fun trip! I enjoyed getting closer to all of the girls in our youth group. I will never forget this trip.
